~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In march 1995 Aksu Hanttu, Tom Mikkola and Teppo Taipale founded a death-metal band named “Kaamos” ("Aurora Borealis") . Soon musicians got bored with this style and they started to do something new. By 1997 guys found their own style and a new name - “Entwine”, which was created by Tom Mikkola. Panu Willman joined the band as a vocalist and guitarist in 1997. Demo “Divine Infinity” was released in December of the same year.
Riitta Heikkonen came into the band in February of 1998, and the band went to Astia-studio to record their first album. They haven't had any contract at that moment, but Sami Tenetz from Spikefarm Records listened to their album and liked it, so soon the contract with Spikefarm was signed. The band still has got a contract with this label.
Entwine's debut album “The Treasures Within Hearts” was released in 1999. It included all the things that a good debut album should include: ballads, faster songs and a cover (“Enjoy the Silence”, originally by Depeche Mode). The album was a great breakthrough, and Entwine started to gain some popularity. Nevertheless, Panu Willman left the band, and Mika Tauriainen replaced him in May of 2000. Joni Miettinen replaced Teppo Taipale, who left the band in April of 2000.
With a new lineup, Entwine began recording new material. They released “New Dawn” single, which soon appeared in Finnish top-10. Album “Gone” was released soon after that. Cover art for “Gone” was made by Niklas Sundin, whose drawings can be found on albums of almost all Spikefarm bands. The album was a great success: it was #1 in Finnish top-40 during 5 weeks, and it was the album of the month in German magazine “Metal Hammer”.
Jaani Kahkonen joined the band as a session guitarist after the album was released, and Entwine did some shows in Finland with Silentium, To/Die/For, Mental Market, Viikate and Before The Dawn. By the way, the singer of Before The Dawn is Panu Willman, the ex-vocalist of Entwine. There were some plans about touring with Paradise Lost as a support act, but it didn't happen .
Entwine went to studio to record a new album in the beginning of 2002. Anssi Kippo (Children of Bodom, Sinergy) and Mika Jussila (Stratovarius, Nightwish) were the producers of the album. Saara Hellstrem (Neverwood) did back vocals in “Until the End”. Guys had 35 days for the studio, but they didn't manage to record the album in that time, so they were in studio during 45 days. There was some arguing with the record company about the single song. The band wanted “Nothing Left To Say” to be a single, but in the end “The Pit” was released. Single went up to sixth position in Finnish top-10. “Time of Despair” album was released on the 23d of April 2002, and it got a positive feedback in Finland as well as outside it.
Then came the first big tour of Entwine: they were touring with Theatre of Tragidy and Ram-Zet. They had 16 shows in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Belgium, Sweden and Norway. The schedule was quite busy: each evening there was a gig, so the musicians got really tired in the end. Nevertheless, they enjoyed the tour much, and they still say that the gig in Vein was the best gig ever. In the summer Entwine performed at three festivals in Finland and at on festival in Germany.
“Bitter Sweet” single was released in the beginning of 2004, and it soon became #3 in Finnish top-10. “diEvercity” album was released on the 15th of March and it immediately got to 11th position in Finnish album chart.
