The test apparatus and protocol were developed based on tests with SCC mixtures containing saturated surface dry coarse aggregates ranging in relative density from 2.67 to 2.79 and in nominal size from 3/8 to 1 in. The test method uses the penetration apparatus and an inverted slump cone shown in the photographs.
After spreading ceases, two orthogonal diameters of the concrete patty are measured.
The slump flow is the average of the two diameters.
When this occurs, surface blemishes become defects and subsequently must be repaired.
Along with the expense of repairing surface defects, it is difficult and sometimes impossible to make repairs match the color and texture of the surrounding concrete.
